Ok, I have searched and searched to find out what kind of berries these are... and even posted on Facebook's Midwest Wild Edibles & Foragers Society page and all I have been able to do is knock out some of the berries they aren't... like High Bush Cranberry and Ginseng Berries... So... guesses?

Does anyone know when the wild strawberries typically fruit? I found a beautiful patch of them a couple weeks back and they were starting to bloom! Very exciting! My first year with wild strawberries! I see them everywhere but always thought it was poison ivy (leaves of three, let it be).

In a normal year, early-mid June. This year probably late May into early June. They have been flowering for a few weeks now.

omth, i didn't notice your picture till today, so sorry this is a few months late. Those berries in your photo look to me like red baneberry (Actaea rubra) and are poisonous. I'm assuming by the fact that you are still around that you must not have eaten any of them. they are cousins of the very freaky looking and deadly white baneberry (Actaea pachypoda) commonly known as "doll's eyes."

I second ec rob's post. I thought the leaves looked familiar.

Hi All! Hey, the mulberries, black raspberries and possible red raspberries in some south facing areas, are good to go! The kids and I were out in my neighborhood picking white mulberries yesterday and we've already picked quite a few black raspberries as well! I'm going to put a pic on here and hopefully it works through my FB page... Edit...FB didn't work for me because I don't know how If we get the forecasted rain, we should absolutely see chants next week.

yay...I love chokecherry jam. My great grandmothers house had 2 large trees and we would put up a lot of syrup and jam every year. Those appear to be chokecherries to me and should continue to darken with ripeness. Usually the grouse will get them before you will lol. Service berry have a berry that looks more like a blueberry Attachments:
