I don't know about everyone else, but I have a hunting trip planned for this weekend. I know it will be early, but you never know....sun and 70's 3 days in a row? The ground is going to warm pretty quick. Especially on the south side of hills.(maybe it is just my itch to go out...) If you do decide to go out, make sure to tread lightly. Don't go tromping thru you prime hunting grounds and hurting any early growth. We definately won't be into hands/knees hunting yet.....

It may be possible for blacks or some greys! I may do the same this weekend as well if I get the chance!
P.S. This forecast is unreal!!!
The REAL question is WHO will be the lucky one to find the first one for WI this year

Found my first new green growth today... lambs ear by a rock outcropping that faces south! Also found first mushroom growth, Common Jellyspot, today! And a spot for cat tails, fiddle heads, and some old sulfur shelf... not sure if they come back each year, if so looks like a good amount!

Howdy shroomers! And so it begins. Mid April looks good for first morels. I found fresh velvet feet a few days back. No ramps up yet though.

I think we will find morels on...um...hmmm, I think March 20th. I'll check a couple spots that day and I'd be really surprised if there weren't any morels after this upcoming weather forecast. Honestly, it's going to be up to nearly 80 degrees tomorrow! I mean whoa! It's just so crazy but hey, soil temp is what it's all about so... I bring a newspaper just in case. Any other guesses?

That isn't mine... sorry. It was from someone on the Michigan FB page.

That doesn't diminish the fact that SOMEBODY found a morel up in MI.
That being said and judging from the rain + consistent 70-80 degree temps this week, I'd like to change my prediction to something way sooner.

The first is definitely getting found this weekend...a week straight with soil temps fluctuating around 50 + plus a week of rain and 70-80 degrees + a cool down predicted to get into the low 60s with another heat up = the potential for one hell of a season.

I kind of hope that map becomes an underestimate because I can't get excited about a half inch of rain in my area from now until Saturday.

I'm saying April 14 for 1st confirmed find. I have a spot on my coupla acres that pops late May, it will be interesting to see when that hits this year. We will be needing some precip. in the coming month. Earthmom- you can fake the cell phone date.

Deerslayer... I think the photos with the newspaper from Portage in the other thread has your date a bit late.
