That one grew to about 3 times the size of the pic. Ate it last night just for an early season taste. Otherwise there about a dozen pinky sized I've been watching for the last week. Still staying on the path so I don't smash the minis.

Just found some today in Kenosha about a dozen.Mostly small guys and a couple of nice eater size. This next week should really start going if we keep getting even little amounts of rain,to keep it moist and a little warm up.Guess I better start getting ready to pick ticks off me.

K so checked my super secret sure thing spot and found a couple dozen but the biggest of them were still pretty small although I could have picked them I guess but why just two? Not worth it as this place is still kind of unknown to people. I can post pics as soon as I figure out how to do it from Facebook. I did find some big ole dryads that I harvested as well as a bunch of nettles and of course garlic mustard. If you've ever wondered "do morels grow in garlic mustard?" The answer is YES! I then went to a really public spot and saw three other shroomers at various times while i was there! Ugh...we're all chomping at the bit this year so it's going to be tough season trying to get them first. I cut 24 while i was there but they were all too small basically. I had to though since the sunny edges had already been cut and with all the hunters out, take them while you can. The last place I checked had no morels but oh ma gosh, unbelievably for the first time ever, I found a gorgeous dear rack! Well just one side but WOW! At first I wondered if it was actually real...but duh, obviously Anne! My kids were sooooo happy about that. I told them it was a gift from the forest spirit! How cool is that? In the past six years I've never run across a rack! I'll post pics when I can. Oh, has anyone seen any mayapples this year?

I checked one of my "good" spots in NKM last Tuesday- trilliums were 3"-6" tall and mayapples were close to a foot tall. Not a morel in sight as yet. The warm up this week, following the rain should bring us what we are looking for. I was in Madison on Saturday, it looked like things there were a few days ahead of where they are here in the east-central boonies. I did buy extra farm eggs yesterday just in case...

Nice find EM, I found an entire skull two years ago, and a grouse nest last year. Always great to see the little treasures the woods has to offer from year to year. Looks like I'll be looking in the nort woods in June for those tasty little morsels, but until then the photos keep the mouth watering.

Earthmom - very envious of the antler. Have been looking for years with no luck. Congrats! Found 13 tiny jellybean size morels in Sheboygan county today!!!! On private land so I left them to grow. Was on an east facing slope. Took a photo with my phone but have no idea how to post. I'm bit challenged when it comes to technology. Anyhow - they are starting to pop!!!
