My name is Rob, and I'm an addict. I went out to the lake again yesterday to do some fishing. I filled up my five gallon fishing bucket with boletes, and had to go back to the truck before I got anywhere near the lake. I started back, and ended up filling the pail again. I did fish for a few minutes, didn't catch anything, and went back to the truck. Then I went mushroom hunting, I was just going to check that spot where I thought there might be a hen tree, didn't find anything fresh, so I walked around in the woods a little longer, just to see what was there, you know. Ended up filling the pail again. I couldn't help it, the dang kings were everywhere I looked. Some of them I should have left in the woods, but most of them I picked are in decent shape if you don't mind picking out some worms, which I don't. I also found several other species - I'll post that pic in a different thread. Attachments:

Yeah, that was quite the amazing haul, had the dehydrator running most of the weekend and ended up with 2 gallon zip-lock bags full of dried porcinis. Now that I have found real kings, it is definitely a lot easier to tell the difference between them and the bitters. I walked around at my in-laws' place again a couple more times over the weekend, and they were still growing there, but I refrained from picking any more - figured I had enough from the public land bonanza in the photo above, might as well let them spread their spores and such. I've been hunting on their land for years, and have never seen any kings there until this year where I have found them in a few different spots. I was also amazed to stumble upon a small patch of black trumpets there too where I've never seen them. I found a few Clavariadelphus americanus there yesterday too and tried them this morning. Maybe I didn't sauté them long enough, but I didn't much care for the flavor. They are odd though - kind of look like sliced hot dogs when you cut them up.
