What are people doing to keep busy during this down time?

Can't do much fishing down here....Just to warm! Probably won't be able to hit the ice until Febuary at this rate!

Right!!! ha ha ha. I do a lot of open water fishing for trout all winter long as well as fishing a few rivers nearby that don't freeze over for walleyes so it's not too bad for me yet, but still can't wait to hit the ice as i haven't done so yet. PS HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL

Been going up to Minocqua area (to an undisclosed lake) and ice fishing quite a bit. Doing really well on crappie and northern. Man are northern good. Among the panfish I like crappie the least - too flakey and soft. I'd rank bluegill at number 1 and perch are a close 2nd.

There's always chaga foraging for you mushroom lovers. They're a medicinal mushroom. We like to make a tea from it. Great stuff and easy to identify. I'm not 100% convinced of the medicinal properties, but it can't hurt!

I'm sure I could look it up, and probably will, but can you clarify what some of the medicinal properties might be?

Chaga is loaded with exponentially more antioxidants than even the most popular alternatives (eg. pomegranite, blueberries, etc.). A quick google search will unveil a ton of info on its properties and health benefits.

school work... lots and lots of school work. In between it though I have already started to daydream about mushrooms... one of my chantrelle spots got plowed under last weekend somewhere deep inside of me hurt physically from it.

I've been getting to know my new microscope I purchased this winter so that when the mushroom season begins again I can start collecting spore samples to view. Also been getting a bad case of cabin fever...crazy dreams of finding giant and bizarre mushrooms...can't wait to get back out in to the woods again this spring!

Got beer making equipment a couple months. My first batch is an irish stout which is almost done fermenting. The recipe called for five gallons of water, half of which I substituted with chaga tea. Medicinal beer!

Blitz... same here, kinda... went ice fishing for only the second time ever yesterday... though I only caught a handful of smelt and a tiny tiny perch one of the guys with me landed a 50 inch sturgeon on 6lb test with a sweedish pimple while it ignored the smelt and shiners we had on tip ups! Was fun, out of the water, line broke, hook out back in the water... never felt a sturgeon before, amazing fish!
