Yesterday I was out but mainly found berries...many many berries! I found the motherload of blackberries. Not black raspberries but blackberries. I should be able to find gallons of them in a couple weeks but for now they are green and in the thousands. My friend HEMATITE just informed me today that there are also gooseberries to be found. And I guess I need to be aware of currents. He says that restaurants will buy all the berries I find so food for thought..ha ha. Now is also a great time to find the places you can pick grapes in the early fall. Not much longer for black raspberries so if you want those you should hurry. I also picked a bunch of elderflowers yesterday and made two varieties of elderflower syrup today. Should be interesting to try! Anyway, I took photos with my phone at dusk so the pics are not great...here they are: Attachments:

Hi Liza! Nice to see you on this board! I'm heading out to do a quick look in my BT & chant spots. You should come out my way after the foray and pick some of these blackberries! There's enough for an entire village!

Well, here I am again posting all over this forum...yikes. Anyway, I picked a good pound of gorgeous ripe blackberries yesterday. This is my third year foraging summer/fall mushrooms and I've NEVER noticed all of those huge blackberry bushes everywhere! The only berries I have yet to find are currents. I've found the gooseberries but not currents. If anyone has tips about those, please help a girl out!

Nope those aren't elderberry. Maybe a pin cherry or service berry?
Been finding black berries which should peak this weekend as there are still lots of unripened ones on the stems. Got about 2 pints and only picked one tiny spot.

Its hard to tell for sure from a photo (much like mushrooms). I think the top one is a choke cherry. I don't think the bottom one is a service berry, but Avngal may be right with the pin cherry guess. They both look like cherries to me, and there may be more than the 2 kinds.

Here's another link, not an official research link, just somebodies webpage, that describes the difference between dewberries and blackberries. stephaniesuesansmith.com/blackberry-or-dewberry/I thought the ones that grew along the ground were also blackberries but no! And they really aren't quite as good tasting as the cane, true blackberries. Thanks for the info everybody on the cherries. I thought they probably were some sort of cherry by the look of the tree itself. I read in Sam Thayers book "NATURES GARDEN" that there are low growing cherries (can't remember the name off hand) that grow in the sandy dune/barren areas of the state that are pretty good.

This is not a creeping blackberry (there are no such things); it's dewberry!

Wild blueberries are about done in far N Wisconsin. The farms either are picking or will be very soon.
