Not sure why I didn't think of this earlier. Probably because I have never really been a big fan of google earth.
I have changed my mind though. With the combination of google earth, my sportsman's maps, and map overlay's, I can scout a lot of area from my chair!. Big time saver than driving to a new public area only to find out that it doesn't have much wooded area.

I use google earth all the time to scout new areas. You can also see, with the click of a button, what is state owned land and what is private. Only thing I found is I showed up to a spot looking for morels, and it turned out to be an old growth oak forest. I suppose one could also find a map having the descriptions of forest type for the state...?
