Hi Everybody!
Our family recently moved to Bayfield County last year. I have yet to see a morel up here. We moved from northern lower Michigan where we would find tons. Does anyone know if morels are found this far north? If so, what type of habitat should I be looking in. We used to find mostly in upland forest with ash trees. I've got mostly oaks, poplar and spruce here. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Anne - I'm not a good or experienced morel hunter (I get too busy with work in the spring to hunt much), but I have looked in Bayfield County. I've found a few (very few) black morels here, but never a yellow. It is not too far north as I've picked yellows further north, but in the U.P. I've been told that that they don't do well in the heavy clay soils that we have. The yellows may be more common in southern Bayfield County as I have seen them growing in Sawyer County.

Thanks! I know we used to find some in the eastern UP... inlaws live near escanaba. I went out with a co-worker who said they had morels on their property and they get them every year, but they were all false morels! So, after that I was starting to give up hope!
