I was looking around for areas in wisconsin that had Hemlock forests, and I remembered a valuable tool...the Wisconsin State Herbarium. www.botany.wisc.edu/herbarium/Aside from having a list of flowering species by month, so that one could id any flowering species throughout the year, there is a search tool that can be used to find by county what plant specimen grow where. I think that its easier to search by latin name, but there is also a search field for common names. After finding the specimen youre looking for, there is a map of wisconsin counties that samples have been collected from, i.e. where those samples could be found. Hope this helps folks with their shrooming!

So what are you looking for in the hemlocks Mike? Just curious. When I went to the UP, the really big falls (I can't remember the name off hand) they had some of the BIGGEST darn hemlocks growing there! I was amazed at how big the trunks could actually get.
