had they not torn down all the trees, and then taken up two feet of soil to make the road level I would think there might be some... but all the topsoil is gone, the spot was already between two other gravel roads, now it is a mini highway in the middle of a city park... 3 lanes that head nowhere.

Yep...sounds like a Walker construction project to me...surprised it doesn't go through a wetland or something.

I don't believe we should bring politics to this forum. It can lead to feuds and problems down the road that I have seen wind out of control in other forums. Now that i mention this, we should try to set some basic guidelines for the forums. I know most of us respect one another, but just for those who may join later.

NOOOOOOO.... drove past one of my Chanterelle spots today and they plowed it under for a new road! Hey OMTH, make sure you hunt for morels around that spot since they tend to grow in disturbed ground, especially if they cut down any trees there. Sorry about your chant spot though; that truly sucks. It's the complete opposite with chants; if you disturb there environment they won't grow. That's happened to me too many times to count now. I need to keep checking though in case they eventually come back. Just don't know about that. Good luck with the morels though!

Yes, dam politics, it just poisons everything as I've learned.

Holy crappers! That's a huge chant! Man, they grow everything big out there...I tell ya, if we don't move to Germany it will absolutely be Vancouver! I've had dreams about hunting in the PNW. But, I've been lucky to find species of chanterelles, here in WI, that are only suppose to grow out west. Cantharellus formosus and Cantharellus subalbidus (white chant). I should add that there's another version, peach/salmon in color, that I've found with the white chants but I don't know that there is a name for them. I'll have to hope that it rains so that these all grow again this year. The peach version was mighty tasty!
I checked a very early spot I know of this past Saturday but there were no chants yet. After we get rain I imagine they will pop really quickly.

Chanterelle buttons are just getting started in Wausau. I'm guessing Southern WI is just getting ready to be picked. Very early for them, but I guess its just that kind of year.

Yeah, you would think that southern WI is getting ready to be picked, but I have been out looking and can't find a thing. This lack of rain has things really screwed up. June so far only ha 0.31 inches of rain in the Madison area. Neadless to say, it is bone dry out there. I wonder what the means for the chant season here. Will the just start coming out if we get a good soaker, or is the season just not going to happen?

They'll come up after the rain, but just like morels, the combination and timing of soil temp and rain is important. If its too wet they rot faster and if it's too dry they won't be up in numbers. In three years I've had 60lbs, 100lbs, and 25lbs in the same spot. Weather is everything. This year is setting up beautifully here. Could be another 100 pounder in my honey hole!

Its early for chanterelles here, but I found 1 little button on Thursday, and yesterday a small one with about a 1 1/2" cap. Both were in spots that get partial sun and in well drained sandy soil. The low areas here are heavy clay soils and things are water logged. We're drying some now, but the rains and resulting floods were a little rough.
