So, I have been up here in Ashland since last July and have found one thing to be true... get a mushroomer drunk and they will admit that there are morels up here... the next day they will deny it!

I camped up that way one spring at Copper Falls... didn't find any morels... I think it was too early yet when I was there (mid-late April) but I did come across some false morels. I'm not sure if that is a good sign or not, but I know that down here the false morels always come out first around the areas where a week or two later I find the black morels.

There also aren't any morels in the madison area. So forget about looking!

No need to look around the Kettle Moraine state parks either. I never find any mushrooms there. The DNR must spray it with fungicides or something.
