I went out yesterday for a short walk and one thing that I noticed......Nice weather, but WE NEED RAIN. I think if we get a little bit of rain that will be the catalyst to the season.

The rain we just got may have been enough as a slight booster to the start of the season. More thunderstorms possible for Monday Night/Tuesday as well, but some places may be looking at a very light frost or two this next week.

They will start growing right away but it normally is 2-3 days after a good rain for them to be pickable size.

I would personally wait at least 5 days. But then slugs could become an issue.......I hate those buggers......

Anybody finding anything in the northern half of the state (Oysters, Chickens, Boletes, etc...)? Care to share some of that rain with us in southern WI? It's getting really dry down here with nothing to change that in the extended forecast.

I'd be more than happy to share some of the rain that we've been having, although we only got about 3" at the Ashland Airport yesterday. Things are bad further west.
Not much for mushrooms now. The oysters were winding down. I'm finding a very few waterlogged kings. The chanterelles haven't really started yet. I found 1 today on a south facing slope, but the cap was less than 1/2" across and they grow kind of slowly for a mushroom.
It may be starting 100 miles south of here though.

I don't know if that will really all happen. We are in serious need of rain, even a little. We are 4 inches behind now and it is way past due.

If ma nature embodied a person, she would have been chased down weeks ago by a lynch mob of angry Wisconsin shroomers and farmers.

I found one "good" thing about the lack of rain. The ditches are so brown that I can spot asparagus traveling at 60 mph. It's not in season, but I marked 7 spots in my gps on the way home today!
