Black trumpet was my thought for the bottom one also, but it has a completely smooth underside. No gills or ridges.
I would agree with the deformed theory for the first one except that I wsa finding them all over the place. One deforemed maybe, all deformed...probably not.

The top one looks like a Devil's Urn. (Urnula craterium)

none of my several pounds of black trumpets had gills or ridges last year, and an image search shows many without gills or ridges.

DD...when did you find that bottom mushroom? The top is definitely a devil's urn. But if that bottom pic is a black trumpet then I'm completely baffled about why that would up now. How many did you find if you found it now?

Kristi nailed it with devils urn. They're fairly common in the spring. Their texture is different than black trumpets too; a little tougher.

I found the bottom mushroom (speculating black trumpet) yesterday as I was checking an area that I know to produce half caps. I did see an area that looked like it had more of a cluster of them coming up, but I only found the one the size in the picture. However, I didn't really search the area very thoroughly.
BTW, this is the 1000th post on this site!

The mushrooms have proven me wrong many times in the past, but I'm betting that both of those pictures are devil's urn. Its always difficult without the mushroom in hand. The chocolate brown area near the top of the underside of the bottom picture looks way more like a devil's urn than a black trumpet. That and the season kinda seals it for me. I've never seen trumpets before August, but the mild winter may have the fungi thinking its still autumn.
There's some great photos of devils urn at mushroom expert dot com.

I got a lb of trumpets in MI last year on the 4th of July and I left a ton of them that were already fading.
But... I am beginning to think that the pic is a deteriorated Devil's urn after all.

Same odor as a devil's urn?

Earlier this week, I went out hunting for the first time this season. I found all sorts of Devil's Urns, and only a few tiny morel pins. That's it.

I think I am probably going to agree with the majority here and say that it was a deformed urn. I picked it and left it on my counter. It shriveled up to almost nothing. It didn't have any substantial meat to it similar to an urn.
I can't speak for the smell since I don't have both of them in front of me.
