Anyone have info on dogs & mushrooms? Do they go after them, ignore them, stay away from them? I tried putting one in front of my last dog (english setter), and he seemed very offended by the scent. Kept turning away. I did the same thing to my new dog (another english setter). He got rather excited, and wanted to eat it, but then again, he'd eat a crappy diaper if you'd let him.

I think it would be cool to get a dog trained to find them. I bet you could train one to find morels, and I have heard of that before, as well as for chanterelles.

I have a Springer that I use for bird hunti :-[ng. The way he picks up scent for them, I have wondered the same thing myself. I think after I dry a few in a jar this year I might start working him on it just to find out. Worst case I still have a bird dog or pounds and pounds of shrooms!

my understanding is that the morel season is too short to successfully train a dog.
