Hello all! I just moved to the Madison area a few months ago from Missouri. Every year I'd go out with my dad and Grandma mushroom hunting, even though our area didn't have too many prime spots. I've heard that WI is morel country, and am hoping to to maybe have my dad up one weekend to go out with me! Anyways, I look forward to enjoying some hiking and scenery whether I find many or not. If anyone could give me any advice on when they really start popping up here in Wisconsin (I know it will probably be later this year seeing as it's still pretty cold), or if anyone could point me to a good state park or other public land, I'd very muc happreciate it! Look forward to hearing from people and seeing soem awesoem photos once the shrooms are up! Kyle

Take a ride to any of the state parks in the Madison area....there are tons of morels in them. Dead elm and live white and green ash are preferred host trees. Figure the end of the first week of May through the third week if we continue to have this cold, slow spring. Go hiking now. That is how to find spots and orient yourself along the trails plus it is much easier to see the trees you are looking for now then when the leaves pop out.
Best of luck!
