Has anyone found puffballs yet? Or is just a late season this year?

I have been finding giant puffballs, and smaller species, all over near my house (Polk county) I picked a basketball sized one, and wow, that is a lot of fungus to deal with. I had a couple meals involving puffball, but my family is a little less than enthused about trying it. Especially when I mentioned that it is somewhat like tofu in consistency and flavor. One thing I tried that was pretty good was making an "egg-in-a-hole" with a slice of puffball instead of bread. Fried that up in some olive oil, salt, and pepper, and then threw a slice of provolone on top to melt. I dehydrated half of it and made powder out of it, as another member suggested. It makes a very fine white powder as I discovered, and might cause some breathing hazard if you don't crush it in a Ziploc bag.
