Just found some nice Hens and puffballs in a park in the Milwaukee area: the recent rain seems to have triggered them. Puffs were all over. Biggest hen was about 14" across. The hens were around elms, but in an area heavy with old oaks.

I hiked 3 hours saturday morning in search of hens and found nothing. Went to the zoo with my two daughters yesterday and found a fresh hen on a big oak near the walking paths. Looks like I'll be taking them to the zoo more often.

I happened to be in the Milwaukee area in mid Sept. I found a few fresh young Hens in Greenville park, by big oaks. Giant, soccer ball puffballs too. Hen of the woods are flushing again now, in the northland!

Found several Maitake in October. There are more still growing out there. As long as the deep freeze holds off, November should be another good month for Hen of the woods.
