You know- I was just thinking the same thing myself.... Hopefully it doesn't get as dead as last winter.

The mid winter itch has arrived, starting to plan gardens and syrup season. All to keep the brain busy until I go mushroom crazy! Thank you winter.

Trapper - how many trees do you tap? We do around 35, many more out there, but limited due to time and evaporator size. Grandpa Croc cut the top off an old wood burner and had a stainless pan made to fit. Makes enough for us and the grandkids and a few others. Always good to be outside enjoying something nature gives us.

Congrats, Mikeologist- enjoy the hunt.
I found a slew of morels popping just the other night. When I woke up, they were nowhere to be found. Is this a symptom of cabin fever?

Yes, congratulations indeed on your purchase. I've been spending my time ice fishing the bay. The walleye bite is a daytime bite, and keeping me from fishing the big gators. Seeing lots of coyotes and wolves out looking for love out on the ice. If any of my shrooming friends would like to get together for some trophy fishing and good conversation, I would love to get together. It would certainly be nice to meet fellow forum users!

I started having dreams the other night. Cabin fever has set in.
So I was at Menards and I was walking towards the check out lanes. I looked over under one of the racks and noticed that they had mulch on display. I went in to take a closer look, and WOW! There is a morel growing in the mulch. I looked even closer and found more. Look at that one there! It is huge! So I pick it, but this mushroom is so big I have to carry it under my arm. I make my way outside the store to call a friend on mine to come and meet me at Menards so we can pick the rest of these, but by the time we get back to the mulch pile, it was infested with Menards employees. They must have seen me take off with my original haul.....

Grammacroc, sorry I've been busy...last year I tapped 95 hoping to get to 300 this year. I made my cooker out of a fuel oil tank. Already looking at maps for the gathering season. Garden is planned seeds will be started in a couple weeks. Days keep getting longer. I love every season we have! Congrats mikeologist on the land and house! Is anyone else relentlessly looking at pictures from past seasons?

No apology needed. Know exactly what busy feels like. Tomorrow we are going to tap the trees. Weather forecast looks as though the sap will be running. Good luck this season. Congrats to Mikeologist on getting a woods! If you have any maples you may be joining us in the syrup addiction next year.
