My son has sound the first one of the year for us. Only a half of an inch tall so he let it grow. But here we go!

Happy Mother's day to any mom's!! Had to check a spot from last year. Definitely starting but I wouldn't go rushing into the woods just yet. On another note, does anyone know how people even find this forum since nearly everyone had gone to Facebook?

Meant to say Thank you Grammacrocodile for the congratulations! Still need heat here. We will be making the annual run west next weekend. To date we have picked just over 100 nearly all on edges. If they are up in the woods, they are very small. Hopefully others post some pics this year.

Welcome to the new folks that have joined this year. Please join in and post your finds. Hello to the folks that have commented in the past. Hope to hear from you again this year. Trapper, you are doing much better than I am. Only at 90. Enough for some good meals, but doesn't look like any will go into the dehydrator. Haven't found any oysters either. Sure hope there are more to come. Some trees have not produced ar all this year. It would be nice if more pictures were posted. Don't count on me though. Not motivated to be that tech savvy. Happy hunting!

Well, I now have some for the dehydrator! Went out and found some nice big yellows. About half and half being prime and past prime. Not my best year, but I'm happy. Several good meals and some for later. Total was 155 for the year. Work and family obligations will keep me out of the woods for the next week. So, I am done for morel season. I did finally find some oysters but they were buggy. Although I really don't care for oysters, just like finding them.

Between weather and other commitments, I did not spend much time looking, but I did manage about 4 dozen this year. Of those, 37 came from the same spot, which was a puzzler. Not an elm in sight, dead or alive. They were located around a live black walnut, near white and red pines. I actually stumbled across them walking my dogs, as this is not a place I would normally hunt there for morels, but it does produce a large quantity of puffballs- I had just booted an old one when I spotted the first morel. There were maybe 5 smaller ones there, I picked a couple that were right in the trail and left the others to grow for nearly a week, returned and found the rest had popped up and were good size yellows. Very happy since my other old spots seem to have given up the ghost.

Well is seems to be closing fast. We are going out. One more time today to check north facing slopes. Went out on Wednesday and picked 3.5 lbs of big but fresh greys and yellows. With the rain and heat I would guess it about over. I'll post any updates after today's excursion.

Well, today was a "one last time" hunt. Even though I said I was done. Found some really nice fresh ones yet. But, they were few and far between. Mostly in mossy, cooler areas. So 11 more came home with me. Deerslayer - you mentioned puffballs. I often find morels in areas with old puffballs nearby. Makes me wonder if there is some sort of connection? Do they both need the same soil ph or something? Just makes me wonder...
