Another year had passed. For me it's been new location, new job, new direction. Of course this means all new hunting grounds. Hope to get the time off required to get out for this wonderful season. Good luck to all this year.

Trapper - Congratulations and best of luck on your new path in life. Success in life and morel hunting will be yours. To All - Good luck this season. Seems that we have instant summer with these high temperatures. Ramps, trout lilies and trillium are all up. Lilacs starting to bud. Any day now,,,,,

Hi everyone, Is there anyone here who is from or hunted morels in NW Wisconsin? I'm from Sawyer County and have never found or have heard of anyone ever finding morels nearby here. I found some false morels one year and was really excited about it until I looked closer. I've got a little extra time to look this year but would be encouraged to hear if anyone else has had any success in this area. Good luck to everyone hunting.

Wish I could help you out, but never hunted in Sawyer County. We are in Sheboygan cty. but have been known to visit others. However, for what it's worth, I was once told the false morels come up earlier and to keep checking the area for the next couple of weeks. It was true for an area we used to find half frees. Two weeks later the "real" morels would be there. This last week we spent a whole day searching for morels. Packed a lunch and everyhing. Checked our old spots, new spots, promising spots, wandered round aimlessly. Nothing! All the normal signs: lilacs opening, apple blossoms, looked right, but no luck. Had some rain today so maybe that will help.

I thought I was screwed this year due to a bad knee- not able to walk the hills much. But- this weekend I lucked into 85 big ones, also left behind a dozen that were too far gone. A gift from the morel gods!

Deerslayer; Glad to hear you were able to find some even with a bad knee. Congrats. Hope the knee heals quickly. We did eventually end up with just over 70. Not fantastic as far as being able to dehydrate some, but made some very tasty dinners. Also found more golden oysters than I have ever seen before. And,,, a couple of little fawns. Always makes for a wonderful day in the woods.

Thanks Gramacroc, looks like its the knife for me, not willing to put up with getting old- no future in it. Then I will be able to do these things more comfortably again. Glad you were able to find some as well, I didn't think the weather was doing us any favors, then I just stumbled across a mother lode while walking the dogs close to home. The way the summer is flying by, it won't be long before I have to check my favorite chanterelle spot.... Good luck!

Thanks for sharing everyone. Good luck with the knee surgery deerslayer (I assume). Both my knees are bad so is tough to cover enough ground for the hunt. I did find some false morels this year tho and I'll remember that for next year about waiting a little later. Good luck on other mushroom hunting everyone and have a wonderful summer!
