I'm heading up nort' wit' the kiddos and nieces this week so I HOPE I'll find all sorts of goodies considering I have such a short entourage with me; they see the ground better than I! My hopes are for all sorts of goodies to fill my coolers with! I'll check in to the board when I get a signal...maybe with taunting photos of cauliflower, black trumpets and kings! Oh my!

We are almost in Michigan. I brought them to Lost Lake campground in the Nicolet forest...it's south of Iron River MI. We'll be here until Monday morning.

My MIL was a bit like having a young teenager along; helpful at times or VERY needy and demanding at other times.

Regarding the mushrooms here...nothing to write home about...sadly. The state is renovating the cabins across the lake from the tent sites. For the last couple years there had been tons of hedgehogs and many chants growing there but it appears the eco system has been majorly disturbed because of all the felled trees and torn up ground. I did manage a few kings which was great but those were much further away. Regardless, I will continue to make this my birthday getaway. The first night we ate chants. The second day for lunch we had a mix of chants, hedgehogs and kings. Last night we had chicken of the woods!

OMTH the hedgehogs are buff or bone colored; sometimes the are a darker dingy beige. Anytime you see something that's growing in a clump or in line along roots...maybe on the side of a mound or grass, check the underside to see if it has those hanging haor like pores instead of gills. Also the caps of them are not perfectly round...more mis shapen. Let us know if you find some!
