Went back to a spot where we found a few last weekend. There had been several 1/2 frees at that time so decided it was worth and 2nd look. Yes, we found several more, and another fawn! This particular area is very hilly and typically is later than our other spots. And has a lot of 1/2 frees. A few years ago some fellas from Indiana had advised me to go back to the area 1 to 2 weeks after the 1/2 free are out and it has been great advice. Exceeded my goals this year. Now have 559 picked, best year ever! Also picked the oysters. Very nice and there were no bugs.

Last week I left "maybe a dozen" to grow in my late spot. I went back this morning and walked out with 60 nice ones, grey to yellow. I even found a few in new spots as well as by a tree that hasn't had any in the last 3 years. Last year this spot was done as of May 16 and prior to that had been Memorial weekend. The strangest thing- on the way out of the woods, I saw a very large Nordic woman with a spear and an iron helmet with horns. She was singing what sounded like "Kill the Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit..." not sure what that means.........................

My old neighbor called this week to tell me she found "some of those funny looking mushrooms you like". So I stopped yesterday June 8 and picked up the bag she had for me. Then I checked by our old elm tree and found my official last morel of he season. (I've said this before) Time to move on to summer and then fall mushrooms. Here's hoping the 2014 morel postings are just as good as 2013. Good luck to those in the northern part of the state still finding them.

What do Viking chicks know anyway? I have since picked 40 more out of our little patch of woods while running the dogs. I left a couple that were past prime and drying. Seeing tons of pheasant backs this year. Its probably over for me and I am happy at 338, so cue the fat lady again...

We were looking over some new land Yesterday (we are thinking about purchasing) and there were quite a few Ash trees. Started looking around the Ash and we found found dozens of huge morels but they were all dried up and dead!!!! These things were huge, most of them would have been almost a foot tall! Makes me sick to see that, hopefully we get the land and next year, LOOK OUT! location: Central Wisconsin, based on what I saw yesterday, we are all done here.
