After three years of making syrup, I've noticed the morel season tends to reflect the syrup season. If this rings true, we are in for a long bountiful h harvest. Fingers crossed!

Lets hope you are right! I didn't get my trees tapped this year.
They are half way up through Indiana now!

Docsoda, I am not certain that such a map exists, and if one does, that anyone would readily offer it up. But I can offer this, if you have found them on occasion, you have half the battle. Revisit those locations and follow the prevailing wind and build on what you already know. There isn't a best place to look, only likely terrain and that can change in 100 yards. We all share our excitement and success but those successes came with many hours and miles of empty bags and broken spirits. It's truly a sport of relentless passion and pursuit. The world's largest Easter egg hunt. Depending how far north you are, you won't find much in the way of Elms so look for ash. Good luck and take a kid.

Totally agree with trapper. You can up your odds by staying in regeneratedme. popple or popple and balsam. Ride some two tracks and logging roads slowly. One sighting will result in others. There is no map for good reason.Take only family. Even good friends can't be trusted.Trust me. Best of luck

Went out for a walk yesterday to an early honey hole. Nothing yet. I would say we are still a good week out. It seemed surprisingly dry out there. Hope we get the rain they are talking about for this weekend. That would definitely get things moving.

Last week the trout lilies started to come up, and today I found some trillium with buds, and may apples just starting to sprout. Won't be much longer and one of you lucky folks will find the 1st one!

im in southeast wisconsin and went to a nature conservatory with tons of fallen elms last weekend. we looked for a couple hours... no luck, ive seen them there in the past years and even across the street in peoples yards so im really really hopeing to try again tomorrow or saturday with some luck this time. it has been in the low 30's at nite and the 40's to 50's during the day with a little rain but not alot. i hope they were just starting to poke out of the groung under the leaves and this weekend ill be able to spot some......fingers crossed!

I got home from work in milwaukee and went to my indicate spots Still nothing.Shocker.I have found them many times when there are still snow piles roadside. In these spots I can see quarter inch shrooms popping due to the short moss and little ground cover. With that said, it will be real soon, as warm temps are in the forecast and a few violets we're in bloom. Get out there later this week and no doubt someone will be picking a few.Good luck.

I live in western Sheboygan County and a little time in Madison over the weekend. I was amazed by how much farther along the season is there compared to here. Our daffodils are in full bloom, the lilac flowers are tiny buds and the tulips are just emerging. In Madison, tulips, and crab apples were in full bloom. Lilacs had begun blooming and I saw a magnolia that was already past peak of blooming. We got a little rain, but it is still dry in the woods. The warmer weather this week should get things going in the early spots.
