The lobsters are up and growing beautifully in the north so check your conifer and hardwood mixed forests for them! They tend to grow on the mounds within the forest. Also they will grow in all pine plantations, often actually. Good luck!

Lobsters are starting here in the SE. Much more tasty under oaks then pines.

Mike, nope... I moved to Ashland over the weekend!
That was the only one I found and it was half eaten by bugs... but yesterday we got almost 3 inches of rain so in a few days the area might be worth another look.

Well, on my trip north I was able to find several pounds of lobster mushrooms. They really seem to be the reliable mushroom in drought. And so yummy! My kids and mom-in-law give them a ten out of ten!

Patrick, I'm in tomahawk right now. Going to do some hunting over the next few days. Where are you looking up here? Public forest land?

I get mine in Hazelhurst. Anywhere there are Tamarack dominant woods. You'll definitely be walking through lots of little branches that break as you walk through, but the lobsters definitely stick out. There are lots of tamarack woods all over that area. Lobsters can be spotty, but when you get into them they can really dominate an area. Now is definitely the time to be searching up there!

Just weighed the biggest one I found on a digital scale and it was exactly 1 pound! Biggest one I've ever found.

Oh, and they don't have to be under tamaracks, but thats were I generally find them. They'll be in mixed hardwoods too.

While Joe and I were up north in Chequamegon, we also ran across a few pounds of lobsters in mixed hardwood/conifer woods. When he drove home I decided to head east and ran in to over twenty pounds of lobsters! I only stopped collecting because I had to get home, not because there weren't anymore! I can honestly say that I have never seen so many lobsters in one stretch of forest in my whole life! And last year I saw a lot lot lot on a foray so this is really saying something! Here's Joe the Mushroom slayer, slaying some Zzzzzs

Nice haul Earthmom!!
I'm still trying to find a good way to prepare what little amount of Lobsters we have. I think they are rather bland when sauteed so there must be a better way. If not, then I have trouble figuring out why they're so sought after. I really envy you finding the 3 lbs of hedgehogs though.
