Yes, they are in perfect condition, not even any bugs - except the gazillions of mosquitos trying to keep me from them. I'm up in Frederic in Polk County, northwest corner of the state.

I went back to get some more yesterday, the stems are kinda buggy now, but I still picked em. I also found a couple of what appeared to be laccaria ochropurpurea nearby, so I picked them and did a spore print (white) and they do key out to that species, but I haven't decided whether I'm going to try them or not yet. Has anyone on here tried them? Kuo says they are mediocre, but I don't always agree with his flavor assessments - I happen to really like Entoloma abortivum, for example.

Hit my regular hedgehog spot last night and sure enough! Two pounds of prime sweet tooth, this year I gave them to the chef at the country club, I'm anxious to see what he comes up with as far as a recipe.

Went out yesterday looking for lobster again and came home with a ice cream pail of Bears head tooth or hedgehog. Whatever you might call them. Looking at photos posted, it seems this might be one, or two should I say, that gets called the same thing. However I think we all call them DELICIOUS! One was growing on beech and the others on oak. Still hoping for lobster, but these will do nicely for now.

In my five years of hunting fungus this is by far the best for hedgehogs. If you have any hedgehog spots near the chequamegon national forest you may want to check them now. Bring coolers as we filled over two large ones and still could have picked tons more.

Found this funky hedgehog the other day. Not sure what happened to it, but it appears to have a mouth with teeth growing out of the top of the cap. Attachments:
