Hey ya DAN! We need another mushroom heading for hedgehogs.
I actually found two small HHs growing on Saturday! I didn't take any pics because they are rather boring looking...they mostly look like all the milk caps I constantly find. They seem to be growing now so check your HH spots!
EC ROB - Do you have any other HH spots that you can check for us?

I have only found that one spot for them. I checked it today again, and I only found 3. I'm guessing the "roots" got all torn up from the logging equipment? I'm hoping they'll come back next year. I picked the largest of the 3, and left the other 2 tiny ones. my powdered hedgehogs from last year are almost gone, i was hoping to get some fresh ones, but oh well.

Joe S (HEMATITE) and I were in the south Chequamagon woods early this week and found quite a few hedgehogs...about say three pounds? They are along the roads as usual, almost anywhere so keep an eye out.

I went back to my spot yesterday, and found a few more. Enough to eat with my eggs this morning anyway. I also found one lone trumpet, big enough to eat, but half dried out, i picked it anyway.

Just picked 4.5 lbs of hogs today. They're starting to flush with the ran we had earlier this week. Hedgehogs and trumpets come up around the same time in my spot. Have others noticed this correlation?

Those hogs above are my first ever... found them in the middle of a white mushroom I have yet to identify... I have still not found any trumpets in WI.

What type of habitat have you been finding the hogs in? Any specific tree to reference? Ground cover? Soil type? Dampness?

for me... they were in dry soil... not bone dry but a lot drier than the surrounding areas... they were near deciduous trees but not far from conifers two small ones near each other, bigger one about 20 yards away.

Mine are in mixed old growth hardwoods and conifers.

I guess i should check my hedgehog spot again soon. It is in a mix of hardwoods, and sort of a slightly higher ground surrounded by wetland. Last year there were hundreds of them all over in there. I didn't pick as many as i could have, cuz i didn't want to be a pig or anything. I did get enough to dry, those I ended up grinding in a coffee grinder along with some dried chanterelles, and I sprinkle that on eggs and stuff. I ate quite a few fresh too. But this year, as i have lamented before, it is really difficult to get around in there after it was logged off. I guess i should have picked more, cuz my spice bottle of ground shrooms is almost empty now.

Found my hedge hogs have finally popped! I've been checking the spot since middle of July and have found one until the 4th of Sept., I'm pretty sure I found them earlier last year. Attachments:

I only found one the other day when i checked, and no trumpets. dagnabit.
That is one thing i miss about the other site, the location information of the poster. I know not everybody put a city in the box, but it was nice to see where others are posting from, especially cuz it seems most of you are down south, so what you are seeing might not be what we have up north a little farther. (I live near Eau Claire, by the way.)
