Just wondering if anyone is up for a good ole' mushroom ID game. I think it would be a great way to introduce people to many different mushroom species.
I would like to set some ground rules up first (please feel free to add to these if you wish!!!):
1. All guesses must be answered with a scientific name, i.e. Morchella elata or Boletus edulis. 2. The person to correctly guess the fungus is the next to post a new mushroom to ID. 3. If the mushroom is not correctly ID'd within 3 days, the original poster must post a new mushroom and give the correct answer to the original post.
Maybe we could also add to this that the person to correctly guess the mushroom should post a fact about that mushroom (though this could be hard for some mushrooms of course).
What do you fun-gi's and gal's think?

I'll begin. Please note that when you post an image, try not to give it away in the URL for the picture. Note: It is the weird red thing on the left side!

Pholiota squarrosoides. They can be mistaken for honey mushrooms. I saw a Hmong woman with a basket full of pholiotas walking out of the woods a few years ago.

Pholiota squarrosa. I think my guess was close enough since I couldn't feel the mushroom through my screen!
