Those don't look like trumpets. Also, trumpets grow out the ground not on wood. A couple spots I've been keeping an eye on are coming along nicely. This could be a pretty good year for them in SE Wisconsin.

yes i didnt think they were trumpets but i was certainly on my game because they were the size of a blade of grass and I spotted them...going to kenosha wednesday morning to look around if you want to meet up. Planning on checking uw parkside area as I have an appointment nearby.

If you can spot those you'd be able to spot trumpets no problem. It would be great to meet up but I'm about 60 miles north of Kenosha and don't have much free time lately. Good luck.

well I did find one spot with both chanterelles and black trumpets along with 6 or 7 other types of mushrooms. It was a small oak grove with short grasses and moss on a small slope facing SW. This was the only place I found any mushrooms of value. I need to look for more areas of this type of terrain. Not very much of it around. Maybe these were just the earliest of the early.I left a couple of hundred trumpet straws...can't get back for two weeks...hope they are large then.
