My findings from yesterday after work in the North Kettles- too early, but not by much. The mayapples are popping up but not yet leafed out. A couple days of warm weather after all this rain should get them coming. Maybe by this weekend, but I would give it another week.

Yea, I went out today, and everything just looked a tad too early.

I was out yesterday in a park for Mother's day.....not hunting, just hiking. I could not believe the number of people I saw out there hunting. It expains why my finds out there have been so few if the past few years. It looked like they were finding some as their bags were not flapping in the breeze. One observation from the weekend. I did not see a single mesh bag. Everyone is using plastic bags.

For those of you new to this hobbby, check these out: Mesh Mushroom Bags A pretty small price to pay for future years of hunting.

Well played Dan! Even an onion sack will do for those that dont want to purchase anything.

Save those orange bags from all winter long, the 4 lb'ers work great. Anyone caught using plastic should have their finds confiscated and eaten in front of them. Went for a hike yesterday- closer but not yet. I looked back at last year and my finds there started May 14. I did notice a tree in a picture from that spot budded out and it was not as yet yesterday. Heavy rain yesterday and today and some warm temps, so good things cannot be far behind.

For those new to hunting, the mesh bag allows spores to drop from your harvest as you carry it through the woods, and potentially "seeds" future hunts to come.

Finding some decent sized greys, but it seems to be more of a race this year. So many cars at some of the places I hunt. Decided to go deep last night hoping that I would find some that people aren't willing to go in for. All I found were peckerheads that were in really bad shape. I hate slugs....

Can't believe how quiet this site is this year. Headed south this weekend for the big show! Might even make it to the festival. Will report my finds if I have any.
