After hearing reports of finds nearby, we went out tonight and came home with 22! It has started! The ones we found tonight were in areas where they got a little more sun and warmth. Mostly greys, but also some yellows. Another week of warm weather will do them some good. Where is Earthmom this year?

Found a few small yellows today near Richland. On the bottom of a southern slope that had been cut recently. Very few trees mostly stumps. They were nearly all drying or dried out. Hope we can find some freshies tomorrow.

I went out Saturday to check an "early" spot that had not provided me with anything as yet. I found 16 small to medium grays- just enough for breakfast and decided I needed to wait a few more days. On the way out, I stumbled on something new for me- out in an open meadow, not really near any trees other than a few shrubs I found 22 nice big yellows in the grass. They were within 50 yards of the parking lot my truck was in and right on a trail. The dead elms visible from the road there looked like pasture- everything trampled down by road pickers.
Trapperhub and Gramacrocodile, I am wondering the same thing- where have all the shroomers gone? Quiet, too quiet...

I think most of the people that used to frequent this site have been going to the facebook page. Probably a convenience thing. There has been more activity over there then here. I have also noticed that some of the people that came here when the forum first started have gone back to the "other" site that actually was the catalyst for this one.

I'm up in Polk County now way up north, have been looking but haven't seen any morels yet. Plenty of ramps to be had up here, tried a trout lily for the first time yesterday, but sadly haven't found any mushrooms. Someone on Facebook that my wife is friends with says they found some not too far south of us, so I know they have to be here around here somewhere. I guess I'd better start looking harder.

So the results fron the weekend were minimal. We found about a pound. It looked early in Sauk county, just heating up in Richland, and maybe just past peak in Lafayette. What appeared to be a common trait is there were only a couple ( 1or 2 ) near each tree instead of several when you found them. Like a few came up with the first heat wave and then the temps couldn't push any more up. Looking at the forecast, things should bust wide open by the weekend. But it's definitely a different year to me.

Dan what "other" site? I am not a Facebook user and would prefer to stay that way. Though I would still like to stay connected to the people here.

Found a couple of pounds in Spooner on Tuesday. Checked again this afternoon and the little ones which I left are continuing to grow.

I finally found some in Polk County - came across 15 decent sized blacks while walking the dog last night. Going to check my regular spots today hopefully. Never found black ones before, - except for one last year that might have been a black, it was kinda far gone.

This is really an odd year so far. Some of my spots appear to be just starting, or haven't started at all, while other spots look like they are done for the season. This past week has been in the 70's and 80's in Sheboygan county so I'm wondering if it is going to end before it gets going. I guess not every year can be like 2013. As of today my count is at 120. I agree with you Trapperhub. Don't do facebook and have no desire to start. Guess I don't want everyone to know my business. And besides, who wants to see a gramma in front of the bathroom mirror taking a "selfie". I remembered something about Earthmom having some Lymes syptoms awhile back. Just hope she is okay. Plenty of people are still checking the site even if they aren't posting. So thanks to everyone who is keeping it going.

It is an odd and disturbing year- started late and now seems to be fizzling for me. I found the first few samll indicators, which should mean that good things were starting to happen, but on Saturday they still weren't happening. Only a couple medium size greys where there should have been a couple hundred. The spot behind my house that produces a couple weeks later- found the first 3 popping up which I left to grow a little, may check on them today. To make matters worse, a few hours after getting home, I discovered 2 flat tires on my truck. The facebook- I don't get that channel. That "old" board- a total joke these days, was much more user-friendly in its past format. I spy, but can't remember my password anyway. I'll be staying put, right here- thanks Dan.
Still hoping for good things, but I am getting a sneaking suspicion that may be next year...

I checked the old board again the other day too, but couldn't remember my password either, and I would agree it doesn't look as easy to use at it used to be. I went back to the same spot without the dog and found 19 more black morels that I missed on the other day. I checked my spot for greys, and there was one tiny one there, and a few old dried up half-frees. It is raining here again now finally, so I'm hoping that will get the greys going, there are a lot of promising looking spots around here that have nothing, so maybe...

Haven't been out in a while. I would assume that we are done around here given the warm weather we have been having. I'll probably stop and check some of my big yellow spots tonight. Has anyone been finding the bigfoots in the Madison area?
As far as this forum goes, I plan on keeping it going as long as I even have one person stopping by and posting. Too bad we haven't had any photos posted this year yet. Remember though, even though it is "Wisconsin Morels" there will be posts all the way through the fall regarding other mushrooms. This forum does need some tweeking ever since proboards updated the software. I noticed that the flash games are no longer working for one. That will be a rainy day activity for me.
