Nice. I'm jealous. I have had that feeling so many times as I drive down the road. Maybe one of these days I should actually stop.

Nice find. That's exactly how I found those two huge ones the other day, and the oyster trees. I saw a dead elm on the side of the road, and thought I should check it. Once in a while it does pan out.

It is so nice to see you are having such good finds! Tuesday night we went back to a late spot that hadn't produced yet, "just one more time"... Found 7, but only 4 worth keeping. I guess it is a year like this to keep me humble. Hanging up the mesh bag and ready to move on to other mushrooms.

I went back to the spot on my in-laws' land last night to look around one more time. Not much, I found 5 and they weren't in great shape, and scared away the fawn that likes to hide up there. (The little thing staggered right up to me a couple weeks when I was up there, calling for its mother, it must have just been born, I took some video with my phone.) Last year I found around 60 there the first week of June. Guessing I'm not going to get a haul like that this year. Another couple spots I have found them in the past produced nothing that I could find. I might have to check that dead elm on the side of the road one more time, it was getting dark the other day when I found those two, so I might have missed some, plus there are a few other dead elms near it too.
Other than that, I think you're right grama crocodile, it is just about time to give up on the morels and wait for the chants and trumpets and boletes and hens and whatever else I can find. I did find what appeared to be an old massive hen infestation a couple weeks ago, nothing but mush there now, but I'll definitely have to check that spot later and see what comes up. I was really glad to find those oysters the other day. When we moved in to our new house last summer, there was a dead tree right across the street that I harvested a bunch from in October. The village came through over the winter and cut it down - so it's nice to have a new source within walking distance.

Nice find Hub!! Very impressive, I may have to take a run up north this weekend, took a walk early today and found two massive ones, one barely keep-able, the other mush. I think it is all but done here in the Wausau area

Thanks everyone! It was an exciting find. There were a couple on the edge of the field that were nearly a foot tall and then a bunch of prime pickers all around that tree. Even with the strange year I set a new personal best with 300 + picked. We have the egg bake I posted in the recipe thread in the fridge waiting for morning. Love Morels!

I keep hoping for one of those random finds too- I see a lot of THOSE trees and you just have to wonder....
I took one last look of my "late" spot and hiding in the tall greenery found 4 huge past-prime that went into my scrambled eggs. I also found about a half dozen that were too far gone. Stick a fork in a disappointing season, I'm done. Dan- thanks from me as well, I will be lurking here.
