I'm near the Southern Kettle Moraine state forest and found a couple small ones on our property today. I had the kids (ages 2 and 6 months) with me, so couldn't spend a lot of time looking, but I am so excited to finally see something in this area. Hopefully we'll find enough for a meal soon.

Those cottonwoods... I used to find small ones around them, but not any this year.
Found maybe 2 lbs today on public land, SW Wisconsin. On the northern slopes there were more half-frees than I've ever seen, which isn't saying much.

Live and dead, or primarily dead?

blitz, I see it the same as an elm dead or dying as the bark start's to shed. It is in the same family as aspen both quaking and big tooth...

Thanks for the input. There are a bunch of cottonwood and mixed together in a new spot I want to check so that hopefully means there will be morels. I haven't really looked around them before and 2lbs around a tree is always a good deal!

Went out this morning with Jason and we found a couple dozen, I guess. Not really sure how many then took the neighbor out this afternoon and found about 40 more all on one tree and a few I missed on another tree yesterday.

Just found this at an Earthmom spot. One of the nicer shaped mushrooms I've found so far this year.

One more paper to do and my spring break will begin!
Heading down to Milwaukee for a week, let me know if anyone wants to do some co-hunting in the region. I will be hitting up a couple of my favorite places in the city and out in Kettle Moraine at some point during the week.
Some use spring break to get drunk and such... I use it to sober up from a long semester by getting into the woods to look for morels!

Uploaded with ImageShack.usFound these yesterday in SW WI. I would have a photo of Earthmom's findings too, but my arms had stopped working by then. I've jumped in lakes and been drier than I was yesterday. I'd say we ended up with 6 lbs total.

Nice finds Payne!
Can't really tell from the picture but it looks like there is a slug in the blue sack getting their last meal.
