MM - I saw that note...it said "stop showing people how to find morels!"
Mikeologist - next week sounds great. Gimme a call/message when you can go.
DD - Sunday works. I find it too hard to take my kiddos along because they get bored and I can't go far into the forest either so I don't find many if any from trails. Plus it just wouldn't be a morel search if I didn't come away with scratches, thorns stuck in my legs, burrs in my hair or on my clothes and lastly, those splendid little ticks embedded in my skin! Oh the joys! I think Payne will be joining us. I'll find a location to go to (not in Madison though!)

I've only found a handful of yellows so far. Most everything has been greys.I still have no idea were my season is going, ground still feels awfully cold around me,nothing in the woods mostly just in the thick brushy areas, or open spots around edges.

Defo Dan. I know that feeling, I work for the local cable provider and drive around all day staring at trees and woods. Wish I could stop at every elm or ash I see. sometimes I get to sneak away for a peak. Managed to find five smaller greys today and picked them since we are going to get freezing temps the next two nights. Can't wait for more warm temps. Might have to make a trip south and get in on the real action! Shroom on!

Sounds good EM. My son will need to go with us, mom will be at a bridal shower. He does alright though. As long as he finds one it keeps his interest. He stuck with it for 5 hours this past Sunday. A friend and I went out after work to check the spot from earlier today a little more closely. For as many great trees are in that spot, I just can't believe that the only ones found were the ones from lunch! Checked another new spot after that and found a few more. The ones found after work seem to be starting to turn. The tips of them have bad spots. I wonder if it is just from the frost that we have been getting. Aside from the tips the look good. Today's finds

I checked a couple spots in NKM after work on Thursday, 4/26. Managed 3 lb. in just over an hour, mix of sizes. Living on scrambled eggs and mushroom pizza since then. Got tired of sitting under a spruce tree with no turkeys in sight this morning, so I did a little hiking, only found a bunch of pheasant backs. Nothing in my late spot behind the house yet, so there is time. Gotta go to the farm to get more eggs....

Found some about 20 miles south of I94 in western WI yesterday. We had a hard frost the night before and the grays and yellows were ok. Some were growing up among a pile of deer hair and bones - the ultimate recyclers. Attachments:

Went out in the cold rain today to check a spot close to home. It was funny. I saw the spot ant thought it looked good but wasn't sure if it was public. When I drove up to it I noticed the park signs qnd decided to go for it. I was going from dead elm to dead elm before I realized I was following the same trail other hunters were taking. (saw the ring of death around them). As I made it to the end of the woods I found a really small dead elm and found a few. Time was running short so I high tailed it out of there and found a log spewing oysters. Took a big one and left some small ones. .

This rain should help all sorts of mushrooms. Oysters and morels alike!

DD - left you a message on here.
Went out for a few hours each day this weekend only to find that EVERY place I went had been hard hit by other hunters! I managed a little over a pound for the entire weekend so I'm very sad. I'm sure it was MM...every time I find a ring despair I say, "Oh drat! Mushroom Mike was here!" I will probably go out a couple more times then I need to be done for the year...my health is in the crapper lately.

I don't leave death rings Earthmom, I actually shoot a grappling hook over the neighboring trees and pick my morels like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible.

Oh my God, that's hilarious MM! I needed a good laugh! Well I just know there's gotta be some places you haven't been; I'm worried you'll find my super secret, super morel spot. I've gotta get there soon!
