Getting eager... and so are students up here, every day for the past ten days someone has stopped me and asked if the Morels are up yet. We still have 2 feet of snow on the ground. I have started saying "The Ice Morels are probably up, but digging through the snow is labor intensive!"

I found my first Morels in washington county near holy hill as early as April 7th last year. But it got warm and everything started much earlier then is normal. Likely the season won't start for us in SE WI til closer to may.
The temps need to remain in the 60s for a week or two and the rainfall needs to continue throughout april/may before things will start to kickoff.
When I see lilacs and mayapples blooming I am in the woods army crawling under and around trees/leaves

They are finding them in Illinois now and I've heard a report of a few super tiny ones being found in far southern WI. Let them grow folks! Give it some time so you don't step on these precious little ones. I found my first one last year April 1st in Washington County (pic earlier on this thread). I still hope you all have a great season this year as I know I will in Idaho!!! I'll keep you all posted on my burn findings out here!

Its 70 degrees in chicago today. I can believe that. Might have to go visit their parks in a week or two to get a headstart

It's illegal to harvest mushrooms in any Cook County forest preserve, park, or natural area...just saying. Rangers got a number of people last year.

Nope, not taking the time to go out yet. The trees aren't even budding yet!

I recently moved up by Minocqua and I am already feeling homesick since it will be at least a month until they show up up here. Maybe I should have moved south instead. Not to mention having to start all over in finding spots. Hope everyone has a great season, if anyone on here is nearby and wants to meet up let me know. Happy hunting!
